The Features of Primary School

In early primary classes, the teacher represents knowledge of the world, not just book knowledge, bringing the basic subjects such as languages, mathematics, society, science and the arts into class through imaginative and creative presentations. During the upper primary years, teaching methodology and teaching approach are adjusted for age and the growth stage of children.
Following Japanese models of primary education, we promote experiential learning, cooperative learning, value education and the balance between academic and physical education.
Activity-based learning combined with gardening and cooking, for example, has been incorporated into the curriculum. Greater emphasis is placed on developing aesthetic and literary skills. Proficiency of several languages being essential for global citizens, we give priority to language education (Sinhala, Tamil, English, Japanese, Chinese, etc.). ICT skills and computer programming will be another essential part of our curriculum.
