The Features of Secondary Education

Now that the child has grown in consciousness, we have to adjust the curriculum to suite his/her cognitive and emotional states. We work more with intellectual concepts and the development of judgment and powers of thinking. From Grade 6 to Grade 7, students will follow a general education curriculum. At Grade 8, however, they have to choose between the local syllabus and Cambridge syllabus. Whichever they follow, the medium of instruction will be English, and the approach as well as the content fosters an innovative culture through the fundamentals of interactive participative learning environment. The curriculum centers around a broad range of humanities, science and technology subjects.
At this stage students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and to their own sense of purpose for future life. In Sri Lanka, many parents tend to raise their children in an overprotective manner. This tendency seems hampering the growth of young learners.
The Kibou International College promotes life skills, personal development, independence and work experience of students. To fulfill these needs, we have adopted project-based learning in which students select, develop and document a significant research or activity based project.
In addition to the core curriculum, aesthetic and literal activities, sports and physical education, community engagement, school community work, leadership training, farming and gardening, cultural celebration, presentation and debating, arts & crafts, drama & music, school choirs and school band are some activities /clubs students can participate in to develop their aptitude and skills in order to complete a balanced and well-rounded secondary education
